9/30/2012 Carved Water Buffalo Figure

I purchased this carved water buffalo figure because the water buffalo is my spirit animal. BWAHAHA!!! Right. I'm not even sure this thing even is a water buffalo.

9/29/2012: Vegas Photo

This Vegas photo is of me, one of my oldest friends (measured by how long I've know him not his age though he's probably pretty high on that list too...) and one of my favorite things about going to Vegas, getting a football sized Captain and Coke. See, it's a drink big enough to be served in a football. IN A FOOTBALL. How sweet is that?

9/28/2012: Complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer

When I was unemployed I watched the complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer, all 7 seasons, again. Haven't seen them since then. Maybe I'll get lucky and lose my job again soon so I have the time.

9/27/2012: Photo Albums

Gather round children and let me tell you a tale of yesteryear, a time when people would have pictures printed at Walgreen's or Target or some such place then gather these "photographs" into "books" known as photo albums. And also everything cost a nickel.

9/26/2012: Green Vase

Interesting fact: this green vase has never had flowers in it. OK. Clearly I'm taking some liberties with the word "interesting."

9/25/2012: Leather Box

So THAT'S where my M.C. Escher interlocking lizard foam puzzle has been that I forgot I had! Inside this leather box.

9/24/2012: Pig

This is a ceramic (or something) pig that I bought only because it was on clearance for 90% off and I figured who could pass up a deal like that? It was leftover patio stuff at the end of the season at Target.

9/23/2012: Flower Boxes

Figured I'd better snap a picture of the flower boxes as they'll likely be dead soon. Didn't quite freeze last night but it will some night in the not too distant future. I'm already looking forward to spring. Finally got these mounted on the house and planted back in May. before that these were sitting on my garage floor.

Note how fried around the edges the hostas are, leftover singeing from July's heat/drought.

9/22/2012: Coffee Table

Came across this wooden carpenter's tool box turned coffee table at West End Architectural Salavage this afternoon and snatched it up. Sure, it's just a wooden box with an attached glass top and wheels screwed to the bottom but it really is (almost) exactly what I had in mind when I started my coffee table search. Time to stick the old one in the basement.

9/21/2012: Storage Box (Not Intended for Baby Storage)

As the warning sticker inside the lid clearly indicates, this storage box is NOT for baby storage. Where you're supposed to store your baby I don't know, just not in this box. The sad thing is that the most likely reason that this box has the "no baby" warning label is that somebody somewhere was stupid enough to put a baby in this type of box. Probably without punching holes in the lid first. Me, I use it to store sweaters under the bed in the summer.

9/19/2012: Rattlesnake Figurine

A memento my parents brought back from their recent road trip west. My mom text me from Fort Cody (a favorite childhood stop on the way to visit family in Denver) and asked if I wanted anything. They always had these cool rattlesnakes encased in plastic so I replied I wanted one of those and my folds were kind enough to bring me this rattlesnake figurine.

9/18/2012: Philodendron

The philodendron is another hard to kill plant, evidenced by the fact I have one that is still alive. Haven't watered it in a couple weeks and it looks fine doesn't it?

9/17/2012: Parsons Chair

This parsons chair and its twin are at the dining room table and get sat in once or maybe twice a year. Which makes you wonder why I feel the need to get a set of four dining room chairs instead of just these two?

9/16/2012: Cordless Drill

Though I'm not much for home improvement projects, a cordless drill comes in handy for even the low-level stuff I can do, such as hanging wall hooks. Comes in evening handier when you set it to spin in the right direction instead of wondering why it's not making holes...

9/15/2012: Pet Hair Removal Mitt

Run this pet hair removal mitt over the couch or whatever and it lifts the dogs hair right off. Provided you don't do it backwards - then it just spreads dog hair around. I don't use this often anymore, on the couch the dog hair comes off just as easily with my bare hand. Got it out though because the new bedding on the bed (as opposed to, say, the bedding on the dining room table) seems to be a dog hair magnet.

9/14/2012: Target Knock Off Mio

It's been established the I'm a fan of Target knock-off products, and this Target knock-off Mio is something I've been waiting for them to hurry up and start selling. There's a Wal Mart knock-off Mio available but that would involve me going to WalMart. Something I'd rather not do. It's like the waiting room for the apocalypse there.

9/13/2012: Pillows

A few months ago I posted that if a plague ever does sweep over the world bringing about the zombie apocalypse it would likely start from something growing on my Cartman mouse pad. And if it doesn't start there, it will start from something growing in my old pillows. Which is why I destroys those and bought these new pillows at Target tonight. World saved!

9/12/2012: Wall Hooks

After years and years I've realized something about myself and clothes storage: I won't use a dresser and I won't hang stuff up in a closet. Pants and anything that warrants a second wearing typically ends up draped over the foot of my bed or piled on the arm of the couch in the guest room. But no more! Not since I installed these handy wall hooks on the wall of my bedroom. They've proven so handy since I put them in last week I'm considering a second row.

9/11/2012: Jade Plant

This jade plant sits in my kitchen window and is something of a family heirloom. It comes from a cutting of a cutting of a cutting off a plant that grew in my aunt and uncle's greenhouse. When they passed away the original jade plant was far too large to move, so it went with the house. But the cuttings off that plant continue to grow.

9/10/2012: Beaded Table Runner

I cleaned off the pile of miscellaneous magazines and junk mail so I could get a decent picture of the beaded table runner on the coffee table. Then replaced them after the pic was taken.

9/9/2012: Bears T-Shirt

In my hierarchy of T-Shirts, my Bears T-Shirt is pretty much at the top. It's comfortable. I like the lettering. And most importantly, since the official NFL clothing tends to run big, I can wear a medium and have it actually fit.

9/8/2012: Cyclones T-Shirt

It is time to prepare for the game of games, the Iowa/Iowa State game. OK. Game of games for those inside the borders of the state of Iowa and probably not cared about by anyone not inside the borders of the state. I've donned my Cyclones T-Shirt, am getting ready to head to the bar and would like to invite all Hawkeye fans to suck it.

9/7/2012: Ganesha (on a stick!)

Another of my "world crap" decorative items, this is a Ganesha plaque mounted on sticks. Because really, what home is complete without one of those?

9/6/2012: Bathroom Sink

So far this blog has featured everything but the bathroom sink. OK. Not quite. But any excuse to paraphrase a hackneyed cliche.

9/5/2012: Square Wall Mirror

This square wall mirror is next to the front door and it's where I give my hair one last check in the morning before heading off to work. Because as you'll recall my hair is my crowning glory. And most of the stuff that can be seen reflected in the mirror has been posted already.

9/4/2012: End Table

This end table, like my coffee table, came from KMart meaning it's one of those particle board assemble it yourself pieces of junk. But it fulfills it primary purpose which is to keep my drinks off the floor while I sit on the couch watching TV. And although it came from the same "collection" it isn't the same color as the coffee table. On my list of things-to-soon-be-replaced. Where it's been for many many years.

9/3/2012: Bedding

I find the word "bedding" kind of annoying. Not really a word a man should use is it? But along with repainting my bedroom, I needed new sheets and a quilt/bedspread to go with the whole color scheme thing. And of course a sham. How stupid are shams? Not to mention pricey! That much for a pillow case I'll only put on my bed on Christmas Eve, so that when my family throws their coats on my bed it looks nice and made up.

9/2/2012: Laser Level

I purchased this laser level yesterday at Lowe's to help me with a holiday weekend painting project involving a stripe that goes around the bedroom. I had to go purchase one (a level, not a stripe) because I finally found a tool I couldn't borrow from my brother. Because he didn't have one. I should say it came from Lowe's but I didn't purchase it there, and has raised something of a moral conundrum for me. The cashier failed to ring up the laser level along with the several gallons of paint and other miscellaneous items and I didn't notice the error until later after leaving the store.  So free laser level or should I go back and pay for it?

(I'm doing the former, if I'd noticed while paying I would have said something but I'm not driving back across town now. See you in hell I guess. And as an added bonus to being free, it kind of looks like a mini Eye of Sauron when turned on don't you think?)

9/1/2012: Mattress & Boxspring

Currently my mattress and boxspring are leaning up against the shelves in the guest bedroom. Why? Because I decided this weekend would be a good time to repaint my bedroom. I also decided it should be two shades of gray separated by a red stripe. Just has "disaster" written all over it doesn't it?
