So far this winter there hasn't been a lot of days cold enough for gloves... at least not yet. I'm sure those days are coming though. And I'll be ready. SCREW YOU WINTER!!!
Had to retire my favorite pair of thick comfy socks over the weekend as they'd developed several holes in the toes or heels. They were the last of three pairs I'd had for years, may they rest in peace. These brown socks are my replacement pairs. I'm auditioning them to see if they warrant purchasing more. Thick. Soft. Warm. Ahhhhh... I can't wait to kick back in these on the weekend while having a lazy morning in my sweats and robe. Sipping coffee and watching it snow. That's livin'.
Isn't it nice to see flannel shirts are back? Grunge and the 90's are here again! OK, maybe they never really left (the flannel shirts, not the grunge and the 90's, some things are gone and never coming back), but I got this one about a month ago after having a flannel-free wardrobe for a very long time. And I've worn it almost every night since. It's more like slipping on a soft warm jacket than wearing a shirt. Probably time to throw it in the wash... it HAS been a month after all...
Nothing says "I give up!" quite like slipping on a pair of sweat pants as soon as you get home from work on a Friday. I'm definitely in for the night. Once the sweat pants are on, it's over. Not going out. Not running to the store. Not doing a damn thing other than sitting on my couch and not having a cigarette. Even though after the week I've had I would punch a baby for a smoke.
Side note: It's very difficult to take a picture of your pants with a cell phone while you're wearing them.
Let's see... since I almost never use the Shout to shout out stains, I would estimate I've had this for 5 or more years. Maybe even longer. I have no recollection of actually purchasing it. Of course it's not one of those exciting purchases you look forward to for a long time, saving up for until you have enough to finally get it.
NOTE: It is never acceptable, under any circumstances, to leave the house wearing sleep pants with novelty prints on them. EVER. Seriously, when did that become OK? They are for home wearing and lounging only, not suitable for public places. So just don't.
Got these new shoes yesterday for my trip to Chicago - needing something that isn't falling apart I can walk in and most of my tennies are well beyond their expiration date. Got 10.5 like I usually do... they felt snug in the store but not too bad. Then after wearing them an hour or so realized they were too tight. Back to DSW and exchanged them for 11s. I guess I'm still a growing boy.
Bought these shorts at Target this evening. Why would I buy an article of clothing that I likely won't get a chance to wear for 5 or 6 months? Two words... well, one number, one symbol and two words: 70% off clearance. The few pair of gym shorts I have are pretty ragged so these will come in handy. Not for going to the gym of course.
After years and years I've realized something about myself and clothes storage: I won't use a dresser and I won't hang stuff up in a closet. Pants and anything that warrants a second wearing typically ends up draped over the foot of my bed or piled on the arm of the couch in the guest room. But no more! Not since I installed these handy wall hooks on the wall of my bedroom. They've proven so handy since I put them in last week I'm considering a second row.
In my hierarchy of T-Shirts, my Bears T-Shirt is pretty much at the top. It's comfortable. I like the lettering. And most importantly, since the official NFL clothing tends to run big, I can wear a medium and have it actually fit.
It is time to prepare for the game of games, the Iowa/Iowa State game. OK. Game of games for those inside the borders of the state of Iowa and probably not cared about by anyone not inside the borders of the state. I've donned my Cyclones T-Shirt, am getting ready to head to the bar and would like to invite all Hawkeye fans to suck it.
Today I had 6 hours of conference calls on my schedule at work. On exciting topics like Line of Business Impacts of HAFA Supplemental Directive 12.05. So I took the day off and lounged around in my plaid shorts all day. In fact these have been my "go to" shorts most of this summer.
This meh. T-Shirt sums out my outlook on a myriad of different topics. The word gained popularity after being used in an episode of The Simpsons though the concept of meh can be a difficult one to explain to someone unfamiliar with it. Here is the best definition I found after Googling it and looking at 3 different results:
meh (mē')
1. (n.) A multi-purpose response,
primarily used to imply a degree of indifference. Tone of voice and
circumstance often implies a meaning. Can be used when you don't want to
answer an awkward or embarrassing question, or if you just plain have
nothing else to say, and you want the other person to interpret the
"meh" however he/she chooses. As in: Q: "What do you think of my new dress?" A: "Meh." or Q: "What do you want to do tonight?" A: "Meh."
As far as Gen-X shared pop-cultural touchstones go, Goonies is a big one. That's why, even as an adult of 40-something, I felt the need to buy this Goonies T-Shirt.
This Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock T-Shirt was inspired by an episode of The Big Bang Theory. I'll let Sheldon and Raj explain it:
Raj: [Suggesting a way to determine which TV show to watch] I'll tell you what. How about we go rock-paper-scissors?
Sheldon: Ooh, I don't think so. Anecdotal evidence suggests that in the game of rock-paper-scissors, players familiar with each other will tie 75 to 80% of the time due to the limited number of outcomes. I suggest rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock.
Raj: What?
Sheldon: It's very simple. Scissors cuts paper. Paper covers rock. Rock crushes lizard. Lizard poisons Spock. Spock smashes scissors. Scissors decapitates lizard. Lizard eats paper. Paper disproves Spock. Spock vaporizes rock. And as it always has, rock crushes scissors.
It's a belt, what else can I say... it keeps my pants from falling down,
so in that respect it's been an excellent belt and fulfilled its belty
purpose here on earth. This belt, as well as my other belts, tend to be stored on one doorknob or another throughout the house. If I ever can't find a belt it's probably because I hung it on the back of the door and just can't see it.
The story goes that a friend of mine (and fellow Bears fan) found this Bears cap lying in the street. Some of you may be thinking "Ewwwwww dirty street hat" but I was thinking "Free hat!" Especially since it had been hard to find a Bears cap that fit my oversized head AND didn't look brand new. In the cap world it's the same as new white sneakers... they need to be scuffed up and worn in to look right. And don't worry I ran it through the dishwasher before wearing it to avoid getting scalp ebola (or whatever else may have been growing on the cap).
If you ever want to see something that just looks wrong ask me to turn this Cyclone's cap (or any cap I happen to be wearing) around and wear it backwards. Most guys can pull that look off. I'm not most guys.
The last thing I need is more T-Shirts. I have more than enough of them already. If I wore one every day I could go nearly two months before I would have to do a load of laundry. But when I saw this Millennium Falcon T-Shirt at Target it was an instant must have for the geek in me. I guess now I can go two months and a day without doing a load of T-Shirts.
