12/12/2012: Santa Darth Bobble Head

Generally I don't buy any more Christmas crap. I have enough. Far too much really. I don't even allow myself in Target the day after Christmas so as not to be tempted by the 50% off clearance. But every year it seems I come across something like this Santa Darth bobble head or the Heat Miser/Snow Miser figures I posted a few days ago. Items I see and must possess NOW.

Speaking of which... I've seen a 4 or 5 foot tall lighted Bumble lawn ornament that I'm reasonably sure I will not be able to resist ordering for much longer.

10/7/2012: Darth Vader Gift Bag

This Darth Vader gift bag won't be mine much longer. Traditionally a friend of mine trade this bag back and forth on birthdays and for Christmas. I've gotten it half a dozen times now, maybe more. Whoever has the bag puts the others gift in it. And her birthday is today. Happy birthday Jill! I'll expect this back at Christmas. Or maybe next July.

Confession: The gift bag is on top of the shelves in the spare bedroom. The first pic I took showed how rarely (as in never) the top of the shelves had been dusted. So I dusted and retook the pic.

8/2/2012: Hoth Beer Stein

I still have a few remnants displaying my inner geek around the house, this Hoth beer stein being one. It sits on to of the fridge next to my R2D2 pepper mill. I don't think I've ever actually had anything to drink out of it, but based on this pic I should probably run it through the dishwasher...

6/3/2012: Millennium Falcon T-Shirt

The last thing I need is more T-Shirts. I have more than enough of them already. If I wore one every day I could go nearly two months before I would have to do a load of laundry. But when I saw this Millennium Falcon T-Shirt at Target it was an instant must have for the geek in me. I guess now I can go two months and a day without doing a load of T-Shirts.

2/17/2012: Diecast Metal Millennium Falcon

This diecast metal Millennium Falcon was purchased for me by my grandmother a long long time ago. I'll say in 1978. She was visiting from New Jersey and took me to the toy store to pick out a gift for myself. Being a young boy in the late 70s I of course chose something Star Wars related. Birthday, Christmas, just for being awesome, I don't recall the exact reason for the gift but I do remember where we went. We went where every 9 year old in the Des Moines area wanted to go: Toys n More.

Ahhhh... Toys n More. I can still fondly recall their TV commercials (which I unfortunately had no luck locating on YouTube.) "Toys n more! Toys n MORE!!! TOY N MUCH MUCH MORE!!!" Looking back I don't really remember what the "more" was. It was pretty much just toys.

Fun sidenote: Had I never opened my Millennium Falcon I could sell it mint-in-box on eBay for roughly $1500.

1/29/2012: R2D2 Pepper Mill

This was a birthday (or Christmas?) gift from a friend not too long ago. I'm not much of a fresh ground pepper person, so my R2D2 pepper mill sits on top of my fridge. Now a little Jim Gaffigan on the subject of fresh ground pepper:

When you go out to dinner they always try and improve the salad. They’re like, “Would you like some fresh pepper on your salad?” Can anyone tell the difference between fresh and stale pepper? I can’t even taste the pepper. They might as well be like, “Would you like us to wave this wooden wand over your salad?”

“Uh, all right.”

“OK, enjoy your magic salad.”

“Ooh, I didn’t know I was getting a magic salad.”

1/15/2012: Garden Jawa

Got this little guy as a birthday present this past summer. Next year I'll have to set him up higher, cause he was quickly overtaken by my overgrown garden and hidden from view. And what's the point of having a green garden hose wielding Jawa in the garden if he can't be seen?

After his pepper garden duties of the summer were over, I set my garden Jawa on the sill outside my dining room window. So he could spend the winter looking longingly inside where it's warm. Some may say this is cruel to do to a creature that hails from a desert climate like that found on Tatooine, and to those people I say... he's plastic and Jawas aren't real.

Plus I'm not letting something that smells as bad as a Jawa does in my house. Don't they have showers on Tatooine? Probably not. Being a desert planet and all.

1/2/2012: Empire Strikes Back Coffee Cup

Pics of my stuff continues (I've stuck with it for 2 days now! Go me!) with my Empire Strikes Back coffee cup. I actually have two of these, picked them up at Barnes & Noble a few years ago while there for a little post-Christmas calendar shopping. Along with the calendars, these cups were also 50% off. Too good of a deal to pass up, even though the prequels had tarnished my deep nostalgic love of the original movies. But no matter how crappy episodes 1, 2 and 3 are I still fondly recall that summer when I turned 11, me and my brother seeing Empire over and over and over at the River Hills downtown. And here, in 50% off coffee cup form, was a reminder of those good times. But mainly I got them because I was low on coffee cups, always seemed to run out of clean ones before the dishwasher was full enough to run a load. What else could I do? Wash cups by hand between loads? C'mon, I'm not Amish.
