12/2/2012: Looney Tunes Drinking Glasses

According to the copyright date on these Looney Tunes drinking glasses, I got them in 1994. Seems like just yesterday I was at the Warner Brothers Studio Store in the Mall or America when I bought these. Actually, not really... seems like it was 10 or 15 years ago... which would be about right.

11/28/2012: Looney Tunes Coffee Cup

Despite the antlers on Taz, Daffy and Wile Coyote, this Christmas themed Looney Tunes coffee cup is used year round. Part of the random assortment of coffee cups I have.

10/4/2012: Ladybug Appetizer Plate

This ladybug appetizer plate combined two things I like. First there was the vintage style of the print, like an illustration from an old guide book to identifying insects. And second it was on clearance crazy cheap at Target. I think it was $0.24. I figure there were other prints and styles at one time, but this one was the only leftover.

Note: I've never actually eaten appetizers off this plate.

7/27/2012: Purple Plate

This purple plate is another in my random assortment of dishes. I use it to put food on so I don't need to eat directly off of the dining room table. Oh, who am I kidding, so I don't have to eat directly off the coffee table. I really need to consider getting a set of dishes that match...

7/24/2012: Birthday Plate

Several years ago on this day Jennifer Lopez turned 40. As did I. This birthday plate commemorates the occasion, signed by those that joined me for the party. It also shows my reluctance to turn 40 (I'm sure J.Lo felt the same way) by referring to the day as my 20/20 birthday. I suppose if I was even more delusional I could've just called it my thirty-teenth birthday, but that seems to be pushing it.

Although I don't have a full matching set of dishes I do have 8 matching dinner plates.

4/5/2012: Blue Rimmed Drinking Glass

I have a lot more glasses than I would ever conceivably need, including 6 or maybe 8 of these blue rimmed drinking glasses. For some reason I went through a phase where I kept buying glasses. I didn't need them, but I'd see some I liked and I'd buy them. In fact as I'm typing this I'm trying to remember where the set of Dr Seuss glasses I bought at a Universal Studios Florida gift shop are... I haven't seen them in awhile. They're probably still packed in a box up in the attic from when I moved into the house. Four years ago.

3/9/2012: Big Ass Elvis Coffee Cup

I don't know that I've ever actually used this big ass Elvis coffee cup to drink coffee out of, it's just a novelty souvenir my parents picked up for me when they stopped at Graceland. Though many mornings it looks tempting, I just don't want my coffee to get too cold before I finish it.

2/6/2012: Monkey Coffee Cup

Behold my monkey coffee cup and know the true meaning of the word "covet." To be honest it doesn't function very well as a coffee cup - the bottom is narrow so it tips a little too easily and the handle is awkward, difficult to grip properly. But none of the really matters. What matters is it's shaped like a monkey.

I picked this up not too long ago (which could mean anything from last year to five years ago, time melts into itself when you get to a certain age) at World Market. There was also a giraffe and a zebra version I think, but neither seemed as organic as the monkey cup.

1/20/2012: Insulated Travel Cup

This is my second cup of coffee in the morning. My first cup of coffee, as I'm sitting around in the morning thinking "Fuck I really don't fucking want to go to fucking work fuck fuck FUCK FUCK FUCK" and having breakfast, is in a real coffee cup, like my Empire Strikes Back coffee cup. Then I pour a cup into one of my insulated travel cups (I have three just like this, two brown and one blue) for the commute to work and the long trek in from the parking lot. About 30 minutes or so after arriving at work I use it for my third cup. Then my fourth a little later. And often a fifth if I'm finidng it difficult to make it through the afternoon and remain awake at my desk.

Now that I'm writing that... I drink a LOT of coffee. I'm also posting a lot about coffee related items. Maybe I have a problem.

SIDENOTE: This is also the same cup Castle brings Beckett her coffee in when he arrives at the station in the morning. My coffee cup is famous!

1/9/2012: Cereal Bowls

The fact that these cereal bowls are pink and turquoise should give you a clue as to just how long I've had them. See boys and girl, there was a time long long ago when that was THE color combination. We're talking the 80's with a little carry over into the early 90's. Which is when I got the set of which these bowls were a part.

I was working at Target at the time, and living in my first apartment. Came across a set of dishes on clearance for $5 because one of the cups was missing. I needed dishes for my new apartment. Plus I could easily take a cup out of one of the complete sets, put it in the clearance box and *voila* have a complete set of dishes for $5. A complete set of pink and turquoise dishes.

Now I've long since gotten rid of the set but I kept the bowls. Why? Because, though they are indeed ugly as hell, they are the perfect size for cereal and the perfect side steepness. And if you think they're ugly now after nearly 20 years of fading you should've seen them new. (Now that I've written this I'm finding it hard to fathom how long I've had these bowls... TWO DECADES!!!)

1/2/2012: Empire Strikes Back Coffee Cup

Pics of my stuff continues (I've stuck with it for 2 days now! Go me!) with my Empire Strikes Back coffee cup. I actually have two of these, picked them up at Barnes & Noble a few years ago while there for a little post-Christmas calendar shopping. Along with the calendars, these cups were also 50% off. Too good of a deal to pass up, even though the prequels had tarnished my deep nostalgic love of the original movies. But no matter how crappy episodes 1, 2 and 3 are I still fondly recall that summer when I turned 11, me and my brother seeing Empire over and over and over at the River Hills downtown. And here, in 50% off coffee cup form, was a reminder of those good times. But mainly I got them because I was low on coffee cups, always seemed to run out of clean ones before the dishwasher was full enough to run a load. What else could I do? Wash cups by hand between loads? C'mon, I'm not Amish.
